An access log is a text file that contains an extensive list of all of the files accessed by your site visitors. All of the files that were requested in one way or another shall be included, so when you have a PHP script program and a visitor opens just the home page, for example, you might find plenty of files in the log. It is because there are resources on the home page which are embedded - parts of other Internet pages, images, etcetera. All these files shall be listed within the access log, so that you can get a full picture of the way your site functions. The info is in plain text format, so the logs are often called "raw data" as well. An access log provides the name of each and every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, and also the user’s IP address, world-wide web browser and Operating System. When you sign in to your shared website hosting account and take a look at this section, you will find a list of all the domain names and subdomains which you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to click on a button that'll be available next to each domain/subdomain. When the option is active, you shall see a download link as well as the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your personal computer and view it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect instantly, so if you no longer require one, you could stop it with just a click from the same section of the CP. You will still be able to access the already created content by clicking on the Download link.

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it will not take more than a few mouse clicks to trigger the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature could be activated through the Hepsia web hosting Control Panel and this could be done individually for each and every domain name or subdomain which you have in your account. Once you log in and visit the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you'll find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each of them. One click shall trigger the log generation and a second one shall deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great ease. A Download link in the same section will allow you to save the compiled content as a text file, which you may then use on your computer. Even if the logs are disabled, you will still be able to download the data which has been previously generated.
